Sexual maturity – Depends on the actual breed. A bitch can conceive (have puppies) at FIVE MONTHS OLD.
Season (Oestrus) – Depends on the actual breed, average twice a year lasting from 14 to 21 days.
Gestation (Pregnant) – Average 63 days from conception.
Puppies and weaning – Although weaning commences at around 3 weeks of age depending on breed and litter size, as a general rule the puppies should not be separated completely from their dam (mum) until at least the sixth week. Some smaller breeds will require to be left even longer with the mother.
Did you know? – Puppies are born fully haired but their eyes do not open until about the tenth day after birth.
